Wool yarn on felted wool, 135 x 140 cm, 2024
"Retour au monde is an exhibition that brought together the work of Rachel Morellet, Eva Sauer and Arnaud Vasseux on the question of what the “day after", and in particular in the aftermath of disasters will look like. Given the many warnings about the effects of the upheavals at work in our societies, we decided to create an informal setting in which we evoke the ghosts that haunt our present, but also we wanted to create new links with objects and images, that enables us to 'return' to the world"
For this project, I didn't want to focus on the present, on our tangible experience, the one we feel on our skin and in our psyche today and over the last few years, but on the future that this condition leads us to imagine, on that something that is beyond and that pushes us into a creative state.
The work in felted sheep's wool with its wild smell is a continuation of a work signed in 2019 entitled Dream Up. If the first work suggested a means of communication made necessary by the conditions of a strict society, this one hides within it informal presences, possible ironic conceptual entities: by lifting the woollen flaps we can read the phrase Risk of exposure to artistic radiation, then discover the symbol invented to formalise these 'very possible' radiations.
